LWI's 5th Annual Conference

Theme

One of the benefits of living in a civilized society is the fact that we have access to a well-thought system of laws and rules that guide our lives in an effort to promote the desired behavior of its citizens. However, every law originates from a certain historical and political context. At the moment of its conception, it is unknown what future situations this law will have to be applied to. People’s behavior in fifteen or twenty years from now is simply unpredictable. Furthermore, our wording is limited and fails to include all possible variations of the desired behavior in the matter that is being treated.

These so-called loopholes in the law draw our attention in particular when we face moral issues that the law has not been capable of handling properly. In cases like these people could appeal to a higher law called the moral law.

In this conference we exposed the historical background of this moral problem and then present an alternative way of dealing with moral issues. Morality from this perspective is without loopholes.
